The dive
Where the jungle meets the underworld in a kaleidoscope of colors.
Cenote Ponderosa, widely known by locals and tourists as 'El Jardín del Edén' (Garden of Eden) , lives up to its biblical name. It is essentially a gigantic natural swimming pool in the middle of the jungle that leads into a wide, shallow cavern system. The magic here is the light. Because of the large open-water entrance, the sun hits the bottom creating majestic 'Curtains of Light' that ripple and dance like gold. It is one of the most relaxing and visually stunning dives in the Riviera Maya, perfect for seeing freshwater fish, eels, and turtles in crystal clear high-definition.
Many snorkelers stay in the open area. As divers, we take you deep under the rock overhangs to explore the hidden passages connecting Ponderosa to neighboring cenotes (like Corral).
Ponderosa is famous for its distinct temperature changes. You will feel the warm fresh water mix with cooler layers, creating a refreshing sensation on your skin unique to this site.
The combination of shallow depth (max 14m/45ft) and intense sunlight makes this the easiest place to get professional-looking underwater photos without needing massive strobe lights.
Pure relaxation and visual beauty.

This is an easy, low-stress dive. You just hover and watch the light show. It’s perfect for "getting back in the water" if you haven't dived in a while.

Unlike dark caves, Ponderosa is full of life. You’ll be surrounded by friendly Blue Tetras, Catfish, and sometimes Freshwater Eels.

Surfacing in the middle of the immense open pool, surrounded by cliffs and trees, makes you feel like an explorer discovering a hidden oasis.
