The Sci-Fi Side of the Riviera Maya
Where geology defies gravity and light cuts through the darkness.
Just 20 minutes south of Cancun lies Puerto Morelos, the gateway to the famous ‘Ruta de los Cenotes’. Unlike the shallow, decorated caves of Tulum, the cenotes here are deep, cylindrical sinkholes that hide some of the most bizarre underwater formations on Earth. This is not just diving; it is exploration. Here you will find the Cenote Zapote, home to the inexplicable ‘Hell’s Bells’ formations found nowhere else in the world, and Cenote Maravilla, a photographer’s dream where light beams pierce through a mystical hydrogen sulfide cloud.
Access to the Deep
These cenotes are often deep (30m+). Our guides are trained to manage your profile safely so you can enjoy the formations without stress.
Timing the Light
Cenote Maravilla requires perfect timing to see the light beam. We plan our departure from Cancun specifically to catch the sun at its highest point.
Small Groups
Given the depth and the need for buoyancy control around the fragile “Bells”, we keep groups small (Max 4 divers) to ensure a respectful and safe encounter.
What You Will Feel
A journey between prehistoric darkness and divine light.

The “Alien” Encounter
Descending into Cenote Zapote feels like landing on another planet. Seeing the bell formations hanging in the gloom creates a sense of profound mystery and scientific curiosity. You will wonder: “How is this even possible?”

Visual Hypnosis
In Cenote Maravilla, hovering inside the thick beam of turquoise light while surrounded by total darkness is a hypnotic experience. It feels like being abducted by a UFO or floating in a cathedral made of light.

The Thrill of Depth
Unlike the shallow relaxing swims of other cenotes, these dives are deep (30m). You will feel the focus and adrenaline that comes with technical-style exploration, leaving you with a deep sense of accomplishment.
The Stars of Puerto Morelos
Two completely different experiences in one trip.

Cenote Zapote: The “Hell’s Bells”
Best For: Thrill-seekers & Lovers of Bizarre Formations.
Imagine diving past tree roots to a depth of 30 meters, where the water turns slightly darker. Suddenly, massive bell-shaped formations appear, hanging from the walls and growing upwards from the floor. These are the ‘Hell’s Bells’ (Campanas del Infierno). Scientists are still debating how they formed underwater. It feels like visiting an alien planet.

Cenote Maravilla: The Beam of Light
Best For: Photographers & Light Beam Chasers.
Maravilla is a classic sinkhole with a small opening at the top. When the sun hits the center, a massive, thick beam of turquoise light shoots down into the depths like a laser. At 30 meters, a thick layer of hydrogen sulfide creates a glowing cloud. You can float inside the light beam, surrounded by the cloud, creating the most surreal profile pictures imaginable.
